Reading Recommendation - Fear Not: Daniel and the Lion’s Den by Tanya Washington
March 21, 2019
I don’t remember a time, as a child, when I was not afraid of something on the farm where I grew up. We were told to stay out of the cattle pens when the cows had their baby calves. A thousand-pound cow would charge you if you got between her and the calf. I was also afraid to gather the eggs because the hens would peck my hand. The list of things I was afraid of also included wasps, electric fences, the rooster, falling into the creek, falling out of a tree, my second grade math teacher, and so forth. All those heart-pounding incidents were real to me and they stopped me from doing the things I wanted to do, like following my older brothers everywhere.
Children have fears and it is a barrier to them, both socially and developmentally. That is why I am so pleased to feature a children’s book written by Tanya Washington titled Fear Not: Daniel and the Lion’s Den. This book is for early school-aged children and deals head on with fears as children experience them. It is obviously a Bible-based story, but its loveable animal characters, The Kingdom Kids, present the story in a way that children can understand and relate to easily.
This book is the first in a series of children’s books that confront the topic of fear and how to handle it from a biblical perspective. The companion Sunday school curriculum for this book series will be out soon. I am looking forward to getting this complete series for my granddaughter!
